In 1948, Piatelli formed his own company in Honolulu, buying and selling heavy construction equipment, ships and marine salvage. One year later, he opened a large salvage operation on Adak Island in the Aleutians, salvaging and shipping thousands of tons of heavy equipment and scrap steel to buyers around the world.
In 1955, Mario moved to Southern California and began selling heavy equipment to industrial auctions in Los Angeles, working with firms such as Milton Wershow Co., and Max Rouse & Sons. Known for his razor-sharp business sense, Piatelli was recognized for his contributions to the industry in 1971 when he was elected President of the Southern California Auctioneers Association.
Piatelli has sold multi-million dollar homes, high rises, vineyards, industrial parks and an old Indian motorcycle plant in Northern California. He is a nationally recognized Auctioneer/Broker, specializing in liquidating real estate assets at auction for Federal Bankruptcy Courts, Institutional Lenders and Principal Sellers.
In recent years, Piatelli has scaled back his company to a smaller office near his home in Brentwood, California, but retirement is not on the horizon. Instead, Piatelli continues an active 60 plus year career as President and Founder of his company, "The Piatelli Company".

After an early and distinguished career as an Account Executive for the Beverly Hills offices of E.F. Hutton and Dean Witter, where he specialized in the sale of municipal bonds, Fred joined the Chicago-based Sheldon Good Company, a Real Estate Auction firm. He handled their West Coast office and negotiated numerous auction sales, including the entire REO portfolio of Manhattan Beach Savings and Loan.
